North Carolina Energy Policy Task Force

North Carolina is the third-fastest-growing state in the country. With our state’s rapidly growing manufacturing footprint and the use of energy intensive data centers for artificial intelligence and other uses increasing, the need for electrical power is placing additional demand on the state’s energy grid. Such demand may lead to higher utility bills for families. With growing demand in mind, North Carolina must work to meet its energy requirements while keeping electricity costs low for families. The North Carolina Energy Policy Task Force delivers recommendations on how to manage increasing electricity demand while maintaining adequate reliable, affordable, and clean electricity for North Carolina.

The Task Force is chaired by Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality Reid Wilson and Representative Kyle Hall (District 91).

Governor Stein established the Task Force in August 2025 with Executive Order 23: Establishing the North Carolina Energy Policy Task Force

Meetings of the Task Force are public and may be attended in person or watched virtually by members of the public. To register for upcoming meetings of the Task Force, please use this form.

The task force submits an annual report to the Governor, the General Assembly, the North Carolina Utilities Commission, the North Carolina Rural Electrification Authority, and the public.
