WHEREAS, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), also known as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), is a nerve disorder that causes chronic pain; and
WHEREAS, the symptoms of CRPS/RSD are often described as burning that is out of proportion to the severity of the initial injury and can include extreme sensitivity to touch; there is no known cure for this disorder; and
WHEREAS, CRPS/RSD can cause long-term disability; patients with this disorder live in extreme pain and experience severe muscle spasms, fatigue, insomnia, weakness, tissue swelling, short-term memory loss, and concentration difficulties; and
WHEREAS, although no standard treatment of CRPS/RSD has been developed, prevention and early treatment of symptoms are recommended; in most cases, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it is likely to be; and
WHEREAS, throughout November, the CRPS/RSD community works to spread awareness, advocate research, and garner support for those and their families affected by this disorder; and
WHEREAS, on November 2, 2020, members of the CRPS/RSD community will celebrate the 7th annual Color The World Orange Day to spread awareness of this poorly understood pain disorder;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim November 2, 2020, as “CRPS/RSD AWARENESS DAY” in North Carolina, and commend observance to all citizens.
