WHEREAS, Mexico and the State of North Carolina have historically maintained a close friendship and partnership; and

 

WHEREAS, cultural exchange between our two communities has played a significant role in fostering a greater mutual understanding and respect; and

 

WHEREAS, the strong economic relationship between Mexico and North Carolina has been vital in growing commercial, investment, and trade flow operations under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement; and

WHEREAS, North Carolina is home to a large and growing number of residents of Mexican origin, many of whom are essential workers that help drive our state’s economic prosperity; and

WHEREAS, the Consulate General of Mexico will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of its establishment in Raleigh, where it has played a fundamental role in promoting greater understanding and partnership with the local Mexican community in our state; and

 

WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina is honored to recognize the vast contributions made by the Mexican community to our state’s culture, economy, and society, and encourages residents to embrace the increasingly diverse cultures and people that have come to call North Carolina home;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim November 20, 2020, as “DAY OF MEXICO” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
