WHEREAS, National Auctioneers Day is a collaborative effort by professional organizations and auctioneers throughout the United States to highlight one of history’s oldest professions; and
WHEREAS, the auction industry of today is broad and diverse, ranging from art and antiques to real estate and automobile auctions; and
WHEREAS, according to the National Auctioneers Association, professional auctioneers sell on average a quarter of a trillion dollars in goods and assets each year in the United States; and
WHEREAS, individuals, communities, organizations, and governments use the competitive free enterprise system as an effective means to establish fair market value for goods and commodities; and
WHEREAS, the Auctioneers Association of North Carolina and its members strive to advance the auction method of marketing and uphold the highest standards of professionalism in serving the public; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of National Auctioneers Day is to increase public awareness of the contributions made by auctions and auctioneers to our history and economy;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 1, 2021, as “NATIONAL AUCTIONEERS DAY” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
