WHEREAS, approximately 82,000 state employees, working across all of North Carolina’s 100 counties, perform their jobs daily with professionalism to provide efficient and effective delivery of services to the people of our state; and

 

WHEREAS, many of our state employees have continued to report to worksites in all 100 counties to perform tasks that only can be done onsite during the COVID-19 pandemic, adhering to health and safety precautions to protect themselves and others; and

 

WHEREAS, others have adapted to teleworking to enable their organization to support the essential work of state government throughout this challenging time, including many state employees who also support school-age children and manage related household impacts; and

 

WHEREAS, whether working onsite or remotely, state employees remain focused on serving the public and performing jobs that are vital year-round to the well-being and quality of life for North Carolinians and others who live in and visit our state; and

WHEREAS, state government continues to strive to engage a diverse workforce that represents the needs and perspectives of the communities it serves, including an array of ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds; abilities; sexual orientation; and ages; and

 

WHEREAS, the public services faithfully provided by state employees make North Carolina one of the best places to live in the nation, earning it consistently high rankings for business, climate, and livability;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 2 – 8, 2021, as “STATE EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION WEEK” and May 5, 2021, as STATE EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION DAYin North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
