WHEREAS, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated was founded at Howard University in Washington, D.C. on January 9, 1914; and
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina is home to many collegiate and graduate chapters of Phi Beta Sigma, each standing for the principles of Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service; and
WHEREAS, on the 110th anniversary of Phi Beta Sigma, members around the country acknowledge and remember the founders, Honorable A. Langston Taylor, Honorable Leonard F. Morse, and Honorable Charles I. Brown; and
WHEREAS, today’s celebration also gives members and their families a chance to recognize and honor every living James T. Floyd Hall of Fame member and Distinguished Service Chapter member; and
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina joins Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated in celebrating and commending members across our state for their continuous service to North Carolina and their communities;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim January 9, 2024, as the “110th ANNIVERSARY OF PHI BETA SIGMA FRATERNITY, INCORPORATED” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
