WHEREAS, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated was founded on November 12, 1922, in Indianapolis, Indiana on the Irvington campus of Butler University; and
WHEREAS, the organization is an international nonprofit sorority dedicated to the encouragement and promotion of high scholastic attainment, community service, and improvement in the quality of life through its chapters, members, and affiliates located throughout the United States, Korea, Bermuda, Africa, Bahamas, Canada, the Caribbean, Germany, and the United Arab Emirates; and
WHEREAS, Sigma Gamma Rho has a well-known and well-respected reputation for leading positive change through sisterhood, scholarship, and service; and
WHEREAS, under the banner of its slogan, “Greater Service, Greater Progress,” Sigma Gamma Rho’s programs and partnerships represent its commitment to promoting the greater good in education, service, and leadership development; and
WHEREAS, Sigma Gamma Rho’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for women and their families in the United States and globally through community service, civil, and social action; and
WHEREAS, Sigma Gamma Rho has over 100,000 members in over 500 chapters that are committed to assisting those in need as well as the betterment of communities around the globe; and
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina recognizes the service and leadership Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated has personified for the last 100 years, both locally and internationally;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim November 12, 2022, as “CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY OF SIGMA GAMMA RHO SORORITY, INCORPORATED” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
