CHILD CARE PROVIDER APPRECIATION DAY

2024

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA

A PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, children and families across North Carolina depend on quality early childhood teachers – child care providers – who have the skills to ensure that children, supported by their families, have the early learning experiences they need for healthy development and a strong foundation for learning; and

WHEREAS, child care providers help young children grow and learn, while making it possible for parents to go back to work and businesses to hire and retain the strong workforce they need; and

WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina recognizes and celebrates these valuable professionals who nurture and teach young children and help families, which strengthens our communities and supports our state’s economy; and

WHEREAS, a 2023 NC Chamber Foundation poll found that 89 percent of North Carolina voters recognize that low wages for child care teachers and workers are a serious problem in the state and access to quality child care is an important nonpartisan issue; and

WHEREAS, the same poll found the majority of voters across political affiliations support increasing state funding to improve child care quality and make it more affordable; and

WHEREAS, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services recognizes the importance of early care and learning teachers to young children and their families and affirms the state’s role in enforcing safety and quality standards, supporting a quality child care workforce, and ensuring access to quality child care across our state;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 10, 2024, as “CHILD CARE PROVIDER APPRECIATION DAY” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
