COLONIAL HERITAGE MONTH

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century was established in 1915 with over 11,000 members who are descendants of early colonists to the United States; and
WHEREAS, membership extends to 45 states and an international chapter in Canada; and
WHEREAS, National Colonial Heritage Month recalls the first European settlers who arrived in America and their role in the formation and direction of our nation; and
WHEREAS, the members of the National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century, as descendants of those early settlers, have worked to preserve the history of the United States and recognize the contributions of early colonists; and
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina recognizes the important historical record-keeping and tireless commitment to preservation by the National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century, and encourages all residents to learn about the roots of our state and nation;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim October, 2024, as “COLONIAL HERITAGE MONTH” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
