WHEREAS, the North Carolina State University’s Women’s Cross Country team has contributed greatly to our state's reputation of excellence in sports; and

WHEREAS, on November 20, 2021, the team traveled to Tallahassee, Florida to secure the win with 84 points over second-place Brigham Young; and

WHEREAS, the top-ranked Wolfpack won the university’s first NCAA team title in any sport since 1983; and

WHEREAS, all five of the North Carolina State University’s Women’s Cross Country team’s scoring runners were named All-Americans; and

WHEREAS, Coach Laurie Henes was named United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year as well as ACC Cross Country Coach of the Year for the sixth-straight year; and

WHEREAS, Kelsey Chmiel was named 2021 ACC Cross Country Performer of the Year; and

WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina is proud to recognize this extraordinary team and wish them continued success;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim November 2, 2022, as a day “IN RECOGNITION OF THE 2021 NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY’S WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
