WHEREAS, the University of North Carolina’s Women’s Lacrosse Team has contributed greatly to our state's reputation of excellence in women's lacrosse; and

WHEREAS, since the inception of the team, the University of North Carolina’s Women’s Lacrosse Team has won three NCAA Championships in 2013, 2016, and 2022; and

WHEREAS, the top-ranked Tar Heels finished the season undefeated with a winning record of 22-0; and

WHEREAS, on May 29, 2022, the team traveled to Homewood Field in Baltimore, Maryland, defeating Boston College to secure their twenty-second win and the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship; and

WHEREAS, led by head coach Jenny Levy, the University of North Carolina’s Women’s Lacrosse Team won the third-most national titles in history, completed the program’s first undefeated season, and helped Coach Levy claim her 40th career NCAA Tournament win; and

WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina is proud to recognize this extraordinary team and wish them continued success;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim September 26, 2022, as “IN RECOGNITION OF THE 2022 UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA’S WOMEN’S LACROSSE TEAM” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
