Governor Proclaims Education & Sharing Day 2024

2024

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA

A PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, the basis for the continuity of any society is education, and in the great state of North Carolina, the education of our youth is a priority; and

WHEREAS, in order to achieve its highest goals, education must not only impart knowledge but also teach students how to live, forming and strengthening their moral character to make a better life for themselves as individuals and for society as a whole; and

WHEREAS, a global advocate for the advancement of education, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Schneerson, of righteous memory, stressed the importance of moral and ethical education as the bedrock of humanity and the hallmark of a healthy society; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of the Rebbe's outstanding and lasting contributions toward improvements in world education, morality, and acts of charity, he was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, and the United States Congress has established his birthdate as a national day to raise awareness and strengthen the education of our children; and

WHEREAS, such an education can nurture the unity of diverse peoples by encouraging increased acts of goodness and kindness, imbued with the awareness that even a single positive act of an individual can change the world and usher in an era of global peace; and

WHEREAS, April 19, 2024, will mark 122 years since the Rebbe’s birth, and this year begins the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of his leadership of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement; and

WHEREAS, Governor Cooper has proclaimed 2024 the “Year of Public Schools,” underscoring their importance in our society; and

WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina proudly recognizes Education & Sharing Day, in recognition of the Rebbe’s outstanding and lasting contributions toward the improvement of education, morality, and acts of charity around the world; this is a day to pause and reflect on our responsibility to ensure our youth have the foundation necessary to lead lives rich in purpose and fulfillment through service and good works;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim April 19, 2024, as “EDUCATION & SHARING DAY” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
