A Proclamation

Whereas, first responders protect and aid the public in the event of an emergency; and

Whereas, first responders include 9-1-1 operators and dispatchers, law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical services technicians, search and rescue teams, and many other roles in the public safety sector, both professional and volunteer; and

Whereas, first responders are our primary and best defense against all emergencies that threaten our communities; and

Whereas, first responders show courage and selfless concern for others by risking their own safety to protect others as they carry out their duties; and

Whereas, first responders are highly trained, specialized workers who contribute their excellent skills for the public good; and many first responders provide this service voluntarily for no pay; and

Whereas, first responders quickly and efficiently respond to natural disasters in our state, including performing swift water rescue and air and land evacuations, providing points of distribution for donations and food, creating safe places for community members, and doing much more after natural disasters; and

Whereas, first responders maintain safety and order in times of crisis, volunteer in our communities and schools, and serve as vital parts of every North Carolina community;

Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim September 2025 as First Responders Appreciation Monthin North Carolina and commend its observance to all citizens.
