WHEREAS, in 2019, GivingTuesdayMilitary was established as an initiative to spread kindness and positivity to military communities all over the world; it is celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving each year; and
WHEREAS, GivingTuesdayMilitary was started by Jessica Manfre, Maria Reed, and Samantha Gomolka, three Military Spouses of the Year who met over Facebook and eventually began organizing other military spouses and families living on bases to participate in Giving Tuesday; and
WHEREAS, intentional acts of kindness and community giving can create a ripple effect of positive change when we work together; and
WHEREAS, empowering individuals across North Carolina to spread kindness and positivity to members of our military and their families creates a sense of belonging in their communities; and
WHEREAS, on Giving Tuesday, we will devote time, energy, and resources to community support and recognition to first responders, medical personnel, teachers, and military members who selflessly serve our communities each day; and
WHEREAS, it is important to involve residents of all ages, genders, and backgrounds to instill a heart for service toward others;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim November 28, 2023, as “GIVING TUESDAY MILITARY” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
