GOLD STAR MOTHER’S AND FAMILY’S DAY

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA

A PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, in 1936, the 74th United States Congress passed a joint congressional resolution designating the last Sunday in September as Gold Star Mother’s Day; and

WHEREAS, Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day honors the mothers, fathers, and families of fallen military service members; and

WHEREAS, the people of North Carolina recognize the countless sacrifices made by our service members and their families; and

WHEREAS, North Carolina is home to some of the finest military bases in the world, including Army Base Fort Liberty, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, the Coast Guard Base in Elizabeth City, and the North Carolina National Guard; and

WHEREAS, we are grateful and acknowledge the brave men and women in uniform who have died protecting our freedom; and

WHEREAS, on September 29, 2024, the State of North Carolina and the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs honor and reaffirm our commitment to Gold Star Mothers and families, who carry on with pride and courage despite their loss;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim September 29, 2024, as “GOLD STAR MOTHER’S AND FAMILY’S DAY” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
