WHEREAS, on June 23, 1936, the 74th United States Congress passed a joint congressional resolution designating the last Sunday in September as Gold Star Mother’s and Family Day, a time to honor the mothers, fathers, and families of fallen military service members; and

WHEREAS, the people of North Carolina recognize the countless sacrifices made by our service members and their families; and

WHEREAS, North Carolina is the most military and veteran friendly state in the union and is home to the finest military installations in the world, including Fort Bragg Army Base, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, and the Coast Guard Sector Base in Elizabeth City; and the Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point, and the North Carolina National Guard; and

WHEREAS, we are grateful and acknowledge the brave men and women in uniform who died protecting our freedom; and

WHEREAS, on September 25, 2022, the State of North Carolina honors and reaffirms our commitment to Gold Star Mothers and families, who carry on with pride and courage despite their great loss;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim September 25, 2022, as “GOLD STAR MOTHERS’ DAY” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
