GYNECOLOGIC CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, approximately every five minutes, a gynecologic cancer diagnosis of the cervix, ovary, uterus, vagina, or vulva will be made in the United States; and
WHEREAS, approximately 34,000 of those diagnosed with a gynecologic cancer will die this year from their cancer; and
WHEREAS, in 2024, in the United States there will be an estimated 81,700 new cases of uterine cancer, 19,680 new cases of ovarian cancer, 8,650 new cases of vaginal and other genital cancers, and 6,900 new cases of vulvar cancer; and
WHEREAS, in 2024, a projected 450 people in North Carolina will be diagnosed with cervical cancer, 2,071 people will be diagnosed with uterine cancer, 667 people will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and 458 people will be diagnosed with another gynecologic cancer outside of the cervix, uterus, and ovaries; and
WHEREAS, cervical cancer screenings, prevention, treatment, and raising awareness of gynecologic cancers is critical to improving women’s health; and
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina encourages people to commemorate Gynecologic Cancer Awareness month by participating in local gynecologic cancer events during the month of September and supporting gynecologic cancer survivors and their families, on a local, national, and international level;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim September, 2024, as “GYNECOLOGIC CANCER AWARENESS MONTH” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
