HEALTH UNIT COORDINATOR RECOGNITION WEEK

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA

A PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, the profession of health unit coordinator has been known over the last 60 years by as many as 75 titles, with the most popular being Unit Clerk, Ward Clerk, Unit Secretary, Unit Manager and Unit Coordinator – yet all perform the same tasks; and

WHEREAS, health unit coordinators are professional, non-clinical members of the health care team, who serve at the hub of activity in critical care units, emergency departments, inpatient units, and outpatient services; and

WHEREAS, rapid advances in medicine have expanded and enhanced the responsibilities of health unit coordinators; and

WHEREAS, health unit coordinators arrange for medical tests, treatments, and meals during a patient’s stay in a health care facility; they ensure that the needs of patients, families, visitors, and staff are attended to in a timely and professional manner; and

WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina recognizes the importance of health unit coordinators and their contributions to our great state;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim August 23 – 29, 2024, as “HEALTH UNIT COORDINATOR RECOGNITION WEEK” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
