BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the Hmong community has made significant cultural, economic, and social contributions to our nation and state, enriching our communities with their unique heritage, traditions, and values; and
WHEREAS, Hmong women and girls have demonstrated resilience, strength, advocacy, and leadership in overcoming challenges and barriers, making invaluable contributions in various fields such as education, healthcare, business, and the arts; and
WHEREAS, Hmong women and girls have played a vital role in the preservation and promotion of Hmong culture and language through sharing lived experiences with our communities, and ensuring that their rich history is passed down through generations; and
WHEREAS, recognizing the achievements and potential of Hmong women and girls is essential to fostering a more inclusive, equitable, and diverse society; and
WHEREAS, Hmong Women and Girls Day is an opportunity to celebrate Hmong women and girls, to acknowledge their struggles, bring awareness to their accomplishments, and to commit to supporting their continued empowerment and success;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim October 19, 2024, as “HMONG WOMEN AND GIRLS DAY” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
