Whereas, libraries offer materials and programming that support and sustain year-round learning for children of all ages; and
Whereas, libraries provide access to books, technology, the internet, and digital skills training in their communities, and
Whereas, libraries contribute to a strong local economy by providing access to technology and training that are critical to the success of jobseekers, entrepreneurs, and students; and
Whereas, in times of crisis, libraries and library staff play an invaluable role in supporting their communities both in person and virtually; and
Whereas, libraries are cornerstones of democracy, promoting the free exchange of information and ideas for all; and public library services are available to North Carolina residents in all 100 counties; and
Whereas, a library card sparks creativity and empowers all people to explore new passions and interests that help people pursue a path of lifelong learning;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim September 2025 as “Library Card Sign-Up Month” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all citizens.
