LIFE SCIENCES WEEK

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, life sciences is a critical sector for North Carolina, generating $88.3 billion in statewide economic activity; and
WHEREAS, the study and application of life sciences provides critical solutions to global challenges, such as food scarcity and the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of devastating diseases; and
WHEREAS, since 2020, more than 110 life sciences companies have expanded or established a presence in North Carolina, totaling $17B+ of investment and announcing more than 15,000 jobs; and
WHEREAS, the life sciences industry provides meaningful careers for more than 75,000 workers statewide, with an average annual wage of $112,000, nearly double that of North Carolina’s overall private sector workforce; and
WHEREAS, Life Sciences Week is an opportunity for professionals, parents, teachers, and guidance counselors to promote awareness of the excellent training and career opportunities available to North Carolinians to help create a more diverse, inclusive life sciences workforce;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim September 16 – 20, 2024, as “LIFE SCIENCES WEEK” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
