Memorial Day
2025
By The Governor Of The State Of North Carolina
A Proclamation
Whereas, North Carolinians have long served to protect our country and freedoms in our nation’s wars and conflicts; beginning with the American Revolution in 1776 and continuing to this day; and
Whereas, more than one million service members, veterans, and their families currently live in North Carolina, making our state the home of the fourth-largest military presence in the United States; and
Whereas, North Carolina is the proud home to military installations serving the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Army, the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Navy, and the U.S. Space Force, as well as being home to nearly 35,000 soldiers and airmen who serve in the North Carolina National Guard; and
Whereas, North Carolina’s military history has played an integral role in the development of our state, nation, and the world, and it is our duty to honor all Americans who have given their lives in military service; and
Whereas, we owe our fallen service members and their loved ones a debt of gratitude and respect for their selflessness, valor, and sacrifice; and
Whereas, in observance of Memorial Day, communities throughout our nation will join together to honor these fallen heroes; and
Whereas, on May 26, flags statewide will be lowered to half-mast in remembrance of those who died in service to our nation and in respect for their dedication to freedom, duty, and bravery;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 26, 2025, as “Memorial Day” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this twenty-eighth day of April in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-fifth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-ninth.
