WHEREAS, 4-H is America's largest youth development organization, empowering nearly six million young people with lifelong leadership skills; and
WHEREAS, 4-H, as part of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension System of North Carolina State University and North Carolina A&T State University, is a program where youth learn through opportunities that provide hands-on experiences in 4-H's mission mandates of science, healthy living, agriculture, and citizenship; and
WHEREAS, 4-H has connected youth and their communities with the innovative research and resources from our nation's 112 land-grant universities and colleges for more than 118 years; and
WHEREAS, this admirable program helps young North Carolinians to acquire knowledge, develop life skills, solve problems in their communities, and form attitudes to enable them to become self-directed, productive, contributing members of our society; and
WHEREAS, the program's more than 260,000 urban, suburban, and rural youth participants, ranging in age from five to eighteen, hail from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds and represent a cross-section of our state; and
WHEREAS, 4-H could not have accomplished what it already has without its more than 13,000 adult volunteers, who have generously given their time, talent, energy, and resources to the youth of North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina is proud to honor the important work being done by 4-H, and encourages the continuing development of young North Carolinians across our state;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim October 3-9, 2021, as “NATIONAL 4-H WEEK” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
