A Proclamation
Whereas, charter schools are public schools that increase learning opportunities for all students and provide parents and students with expanded opportunities within the public school system; and
WHEREAS, there are 213 charter schools operating in North Carolina, serving more than 140,000 students; and
Whereas, charter schools seek to improve student learning by encouraging the development of innovative teaching methods and providing new professional opportunities for teachers; and
Whereas, charter schools can make a difference for students, families, communities, and public school systems all across North Carolina; and
Whereas, charter schools encourage and engage parents and communities in youth education; and
Whereas, charter schools offer a variety of learning environments and emphases, including college-preparedness, career technical education, arts, and STEM; and
Whereas, the State of North Carolina joins the North Carolina Association for Public Charter Schools in celebrating the accomplishments and contributions of charter schools to public education;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 11-17, 2025, as “National Charter Schools Week” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this fifth day of May in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-fifth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-ninth.
