NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS WEEK

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, sustainable communities in North Carolina depend on public works infrastructure to ensure our health, safety, and well-being; and
WHEREAS, public works professionals, engineers, managers, state and local governments, and private sector employees plan, design, build, operate, and maintain transportation, water supplies, sewage and refuse disposal systems, public buildings, and other structures and facilities essential to serving our residents; and
WHEREAS, it is in the public interest for all people living in North Carolina to gain knowledge of and maintain an ongoing interest and understanding of the importance of public works and public works programs in their communities; and
WHEREAS, this year marks the 64th annual National Public Works Week, a time to celebrate the tens of thousands of men and women in North America who provide and maintain the infrastructure and public work services collectively; and
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina joins the American Public Works Association, and other interested agencies and organizations, in recognizing the contributions of public works professionals to the health, safety, and welfare of North Carolina;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 19 – 25, 2024, as “NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS WEEK” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
