A Proclamation
Whereas, North Carolina holds a proud place in American winemaking history, with the first cultivated grapes in the New World traced to our coast more than 400 years ago, and today nearly 200 wine producers across the state continue this legacy through dedication, craftsmanship, and innovation; and
Whereas, National Red Wine Day, observed on October 15, provides an opportunity to honor this centuries-old heritage and the skill of North Carolina’s vintners, whose work transforms the unique soils and climate of our state into wines of distinction; and
Whereas, North Carolina is home to a growing number of acclaimed wineries and vineyards, with producers across the state gaining national recognition for their excellence, raising the profile of East Coast winemaking, and achieving some of the highest honors and ratings in the region; and
Whereas, the dedicated teams working in North Carolina’s vineyards and wineries represent the state’s thriving wine industry, merging cutting-edge agricultural practices with careful stewardship of the land, precise winemaking techniques, and the integration of advanced production with luxury tourism destinations; they showcasing the best of what North Carolina has to offer through innovation, craftsmanship, and hospitality;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim October 15, 2025, as “National Red Wine Day” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all citizens.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this sixth day of October in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-fifth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-ninth.
