WHEREAS, North Carolina has 169 senior centers in 95 counties serving as focal points for the provision and coordination of a broad spectrum of services and activities for older adults; and
WHEREAS, through a wide array of services, programs, and activities, senior centers empower the older residents of North Carolina to contribute to their own health and well-being, as well as the health and well-being of their fellow citizens of all ages; and
WHEREAS, senior centers in the state of North Carolina affirm the dignity, self-worth, and independence of older persons by facilitating their decisions and actions; tapping their experiences, skills, and knowledge enabling their continued contributions to the community; and
WHEREAS, North Carolina recognizes the tremendous contributions that senior centers make towards our communities and the outstanding effort of the staff and volunteers who work every day to enhance the well-being of the older members of our community;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim September 2021, as “NATIONAL SENIOR CENTER MONTH” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
