WHEREAS, National Veteran and Military Families’ Month was established in 1996 by the Armed Forces YMCA to honor those that know what service means, and those that make sacrifices alongside fellow service members in everyday life, and;
WHEREAS, 2.6 million military family members each year face separation from loved ones for extended periods of time with little to no communication, especially during wartime situations, and;
WHEREAS, military families are asked to move frequently and adapt to new environments on short notice, and;
WHEREAS, we recognize that while service members are deployed, it is our duty to provide their families the resources they need to thrive in the community, and;
WHEREAS, during the month of November we recognize and celebrate the family members of active-duty soldiers and the sacrifices they have made in support of our nation’s heroes;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim November, 2021, as “NATIONAL VETERAN AND MILITARY FAMILIES’ MONTH” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
