WHEREAS, the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles' License and Theft Bureau was formed in December 19, 1921 to enforce all state and federal laws which regulate motor vehicle operations, motor vehicle dealerships, and safety and emission inspection stations; and
WHEREAS, the License and Theft Bureau is North Carolina's oldest state law enforcement agency, having adapted over the last century to changing needs to conduct criminal investigations involving auto theft, driver license and ID fraud, and other investigations within DMV's subject matter that combat fraud and other abuses upon the state's citizens; and
WHEREAS, the members of the License and Theft Bureau have served honorably to ensure the safe use of motor vehicles and the protection of North Carolina's citizens and their property; and
WHEREAS, the License and Theft Bureau has evolved, expanded its services throughout the years, and assisted other law enforcement agencies statewide and nationally;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim December 19, 2021, as “NORTH CAROLINA LICENSE AND THEFT BUREAU 100TH ANNIVERSARY” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
