NORTH CAROLINA SENIOR GAMES WEEK

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA

A PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, North Carolina Senior Games, Inc. has 54 Local Senior Games programs serving individuals aged 50 and older in all of North Carolina’s 100 counties; and

WHEREAS, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Aging serves as the Grand Patron Sponsor of North Carolina Senior Games, making North Carolina the national model for healthy aging through Senior Games in the United States; and

WHEREAS, through a wide variety of wellness initiatives, North Carolina Senior Games offers a holistic approach to keeping the body, mind, and spirit fit while enjoying the company of friends, spectators, and volunteers; and

WHEREAS, Senior Games offers over 40 events for athletes, focusing on the benefits of fun, fitness, family, and fellowship that surround the largest senior Olympic-style program in our country; and

WHEREAS, North Carolina is the only Senior Games program that offers the SilverArts, a Celebration of the Creative Spirit of older adults in our state; based on a philosophy of keeping seniors healthy, active, and involved, SilverArts unites the athlete and artist in a program that recognizes the similarities of both endeavors – discipline, dedication, and pride in one’s accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, 2024 marks the 40th “Celebration of the Human Spirit” that is Senior Games State Finals, bringing in the largest number of participants in history, with over 3,500 attending;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim September 16 – 22, 2024, as “NORTH CAROLINA SENIOR GAMES WEEK” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
