NORTH CAROLINA TECHNOLOGY DAY

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA

A PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, North Carolina is home to the 9th largest technology workforce in the United States; and

WHEREAS, the technology industry employs more than 290,000 North Carolinians across all 100 counties; and

WHEREAS, women make up over one-third of the North Carolina technology workforce, making North Carolina number one in the nation in female technology employees; and

WHEREAS, a diverse array of technology startups has received nearly $5 billion in venture capital investment, highlighting North Carolina’s commitment to technological innovation and entrepreneurship; and

WHEREAS, North Carolina’s strength in the industry is bolstered by the internationally-recognized blend of public and independent institutions of higher education, and the innovations which have been developed at each of these institutions; and

WHEREAS, North Carolina continues to foster premier technological innovation and entrepreneurship through its flagship Research Triangle Park, along with the many technology innovation hubs that exist from the coast to the mountains; and

WHEREAS, companies such as IBM, Lenovo, SAS, Cisco and many others have made North Carolina their home for decades, leading the way with corporate and community investments across the state; and

WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina continues to recruit highly qualified employees and innovative companies because of our reputation and support for the workforce needed to support the technology industry;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 11, 2024, as “NORTH CAROLINA TECHNOLOGY DAY” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
