WHEREAS, perianesthesia nurses practice in all phases of pre-anesthesia and post-anesthesia care, ambulatory surgery, and pain management; and
WHEREAS, the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) and its component, the North Carolina Association of PeriAnesthesia Nurses, represent more than 60,000 registered perianesthesia nurses throughout the United States and North Carolina by striving to advance nursing practices through continuing education, research, and standards; and
WHEREAS, along with ASPAN, the North Carolina Association of PeriAnesthesia Nurses has declared the week of February 4 – 10, 2024 as Perianesthesia Nurse Awareness Week in recognition of perianesthesia nurses' steadfast commitment to patient care and the continued advancement of nursing practices; and
WHEREAS, this week is an opportunity to educate nursing colleagues and the community about the professionalism and passionate care administered by perianesthesia nurses every day; and
WHEREAS, perianesthesia nursing is essential to delivering quality health care and ensuring the safety of patients in hospitals and ambulatory surgery settings; and
WHEREAS, the services and care provided by perianesthesia nurses remain invaluable and vital to our health care system;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim February 4 – 10, 2024, as “PERIANESTHESIA NURSE AWARENESS WEEK” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
