By The Governor Of The State Of North Carolina
A Proclamation
Whereas, PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) is the flagship military program of PGA REACH, the charitable foundation of the PGA of America, and is designed to introduce golf to veterans and active-duty military as a means to enhance their physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being; and
Whereas, the program is led by PGA Professionals who are trained in both adaptive golf instruction and military cultural competency, providing a welcoming, therapeutic experience that allows veterans of all abilities to benefit from the game; and
Whereas, PGA HOPE recognizes the dedication of PGA Professionals who volunteer hundreds of hours to share their passion for golf with veterans across the nation, including here in North Carolina; these professionals ensure that veterans with physical and cognitive challenges, including traumatic brain injuries, post-traumatic stress, limb loss, and visual impairments, can fully participate and thrive in the program; and
Whereas, PGA HOPE is offered at no cost to veterans, with all expenses covered by PGA REACH and PGA Section Foundations. Its curriculum, delivered over six to eight weeks, introduces golf in a structured, supportive format that fosters community, connection, and healing; and
Whereas, PGA HOPE has a formal partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, allowing healthcare providers to directly refer veterans to the program as a recognized form of recreational and therapeutic support; and
Whereas, there are over 550 PGA HOPE programs nationwide serving more than 17,000 veterans each year, supported by a network of more than 3,000 certified PGA Professionals; 17 active programs have reached more than 1,500 veterans and service members since 2017 in North Carolina, reflecting the state’s deep commitment to supporting those who serve; and
Whereas, North Carolina is proud to host the 2025 PGA HOPE Secretary’s Cup on May 12, 2025, at Carmel Country Club in Charlotte, a national event held during PGA Championship Week that celebrates the achievements of PGA HOPE participants and highlights the laudable work of PGA Professionals; and
Whereas, the State of North Carolina honors the bravery and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans and commends the efforts of PGA HOPE to improve their quality of life through connection, physical activity, and purpose;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 12, 2025, as “PGA Hope Day” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this fifth day of May in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-fifth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-ninth.
