PROBATION, PAROLE AND COMMUNITY SUPERVISION OFFICERS’ WEEK
2024
BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, community supervision professionals play a vital role upholding the law with professionalism while recognizing the right of the public to be safe-guarded from criminal activity; and
WHEREAS, community supervision professionals are responsible for helping people involved with the criminal justice system become successful members of their communities; and
WHEREAS, community supervision professionals answer a daily charge to aid in the reentry of formerly incarcerated individuals as they return home; and
WHEREAS, in partnering with community agencies and groups, these trained professionals provide services and support to people on probation, parole and post-release supervision; and
WHEREAS, community supervision professionals promote prevention, intervention and advocacy to reduce recidivism and improve public safety; and
WHEREAS, more than 2,000 certified probation/parole officers serve the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction supervising the approximately 80,000 justice-involved individuals across our state; and
WHEREAS, North Carolina’s community supervision officers and those across the nation have made the vital commitment to make positive changes in their communities with their dedication, perseverance and training;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim July 21 – 27, 2024, as “PROBATION PAROLE, AND COMMUNITY SUPERVISION OFFICERS’ WEEK” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
