WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina joins our nation in recognizing March 2022 as Problem Gambling Awareness Month to raise awareness of problem gambling and the free resources available to all North Carolinians; and

 

WHEREAS, problem gambling is a public health issue that can affect North Carolinians of all ages, races, and backgrounds, having significant societal and economic costs for individuals, families, businesses, and communities; and

 

WHEREAS, North Carolina is dedicated to reducing the negative effects of gambling for all North Carolinians through balanced policies and effective systems of problem gambling services, through prevention programs and treatment services; and

 

WHEREAS, many North Carolinians have successfully sought treatment; are in recovery, along with their families; and have benefited from the expertise of professionals at the North Carolina Problem Gambling Helpline (1-877-718-5543); and

 

WHEREAS, the North Carolina Problem Gambling Program, funded by the North Carolina Education Lottery, provides confidential support and resources through the Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services in the Department of Health and Human Services to help treat this addiction; and

 

WHEREAS, the World Lottery Association has recognized North Carolina as a world leader in responsible gaming with programs and practices designed to protect the public and sustain the revenues it raises for public education in North Carolina;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim March 2022, as “PROBLEM GAMBLING AWARENESS MONTH” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
