WHEREAS, the Lenoir-Rhyne University’s Women’s Triathlon Team has contributed greatly to our state’s reputation of excellence in collegiate sports; and

WHEREAS, on November 12, 2022, in Tempe, Arizona, Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Triathlon attained the first women’s National Championship in university history at the USAT Nationals; and

WHEREAS, the Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Triathlon Team’s score of 268 clinched the Division II National Title ahead of Colorado Mesa and Wingate; and

WHEREAS, with this victory, Head Coach Harley Mason was named the National Coach of the Year in her first season with Lenoir-Rhyne; and

WHEREAS, within the year, the Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Triathlon Team has accumulated six named All-Americans, taken home 4th, 5th, 6th and 9th place individually, and been awarded the National Freshman of the Year honors; and

WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina is proud to recognize this extraordinary team and wishes them continued success;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim October 23, 2023, as a day “IN RECOGNITION OF THE 2022 LENOIR-RHYNE WOMEN’S TRIATHLON TEAM” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
