THE 60th ANNIVERSARY OF GOODWILL INDUSTRIES OF EASTERN NC

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Goodwill Industries International was founded in 1902 by Reverend Edgar J. Helms, who began collecting used household goods and clothing and training others to mend and repair items, reselling them and creating a system of self-sufficiency that is still modeled in communities across our state and nation; and
WHEREAS, Goodwill Industries of Eastern North Carolina provides programs and opportunities that promote the value of work through workforce development, education, and life enrichment opportunities; and
WHEREAS, Goodwill Industries of Eastern North Carolina is vital to building strong communities in North Carolina by awarding grants and resources to tax-exempt organizations throughout Eastern North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, this year marks the 60th Anniversary of Goodwill Industries of Eastern North Carolina, “transforming lives through opportunities”; and
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina congratulates Goodwill Industries of Eastern North Carolina on 60 years of being a pillar in the community;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 7, 2024, as a day “IN RECOGNITION OF THE 60th ANNIVERSARY OF GOODWILL INDUSTRIES OF EASTERN NC” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
