Governor Proclaims In Recognition of the 60th Anniversary of the Theta Omicron Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity 2024

IN RECOGNITION OF

THE 60th ANNIVERSARY OF THE THETA OMICRON LAMBDA CHAPTER OF ALPHA PHI ALPHA FRATERNITY

2024

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA

A PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, the Theta Omicron Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated was chartered on April 16, 1964 in Goldsboro, North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, eight visionary Alpha men, Patrick M. Best, Prince A. Best, Leslie Brinson, William Reinhardt, Orlando R. Stovall, David B. Waymer, William L. West, and Earl Whitted, Jr., all residents and professionals in Goldsboro, sought to bring a new commitment to fraternal life and public service to the Goldsboro community; and

WHEREAS, the brothers of Theta Omicron Lambda recognize the need for affordable housing in the community, as it allows families to live, grow, and create a home for themselves and their children; and

WHEREAS, Theta Omicron Lambda embraces the initiatives of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., including Go To High School, Go To College, Project Alpha, and A Voteless People Is A Hopeless People, by being actively involved in various service projects; and

WHEREAS, Theta Omicron Lambda provides service to the community through the sponsorship of the Jackie Robinson Youth League baseball team, March of Dimes, Relay for life, Special Population annual dance, and Adopt A Highway projects; and

WHEREAS, Theta Omicron Lambda has awarded scholarships to high school seniors and many others in the surrounding communities; and

WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina joins the Theta Omicron Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated in celebrating and commending members for their continuous service to North Carolina and their communities;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim April 6, 2024, as a day “IN RECOGNITION OF THE 60th ANNIVERSARY OF THE THETA OMICRON LAMBDA CHAPTER OF ALPHA PHI ALPHA FRATERNITY” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
