IN RECOGNITION OF
THE EAST WAKE-JOHNSTON CHAPTER OF JACK AND JILL OF AMERICA
2024
BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated was founded on January 24, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by the late Marion Stubbs Thomas when 20 mothers gathered to discuss creating an organization to provide social, cultural, and educational opportunities for youth between the ages of 2 and 19; and
WHEREAS, today, there are 271 chapters nationwide, representing more than 50,000 family members; each chapter plans annual programming activities focusing on the organization’s five-point programmatic thrust of cultural awareness, educational development, health (education and advocacy), civic (legislative advocacy and service) and social and recreational areas; and
WHEREAS, on September 8, 2024, Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated chartered the East Wake-Johnston Chapter of Jack and Jill to service the east region of Wake County, including Knightdale, Wendell, Zebulon, Garner, Willow Springs, all cities and municipalities in Johnston County, and the City of Youngsville in Franklin County; and
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina recognizes the East Wake-Johnston Chapter of Jack and Jill as a newly chartered chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated; and
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina recognizes Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated and its members’ continuous efforts and commitment to stimulate and promote the public awareness of children's growth and development;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim September 9, 2024, as a day “IN RECOGNITION OF THE EAST WAKE-JOHNSTON CHAPTER OF JACK AND JILL OF AMERICA” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
