IN RECOGNITION OF
THE EQUALITY NORTH CAROLINA’S 45th ANNIVERSARY

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Equality North Carolina is the oldest statewide organization in the country dedicated to securing rights and protections for the LGBTQ+ community; and
WHEREAS, Equality North Carolina began in 1979, when seven individuals with varying backgrounds came together to form the North Carolina Human Rights Fund with the goal of creating a more just and equitable world for folks facing threats to life and safety from their government and communities; and
WHEREAS, over the last 45 years, Equality North Carolina has been a leader in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights, combatting harmful anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and supporting the creation of safe and secure spaces for LGBTQ+ North Carolinians; and
WHEREAS, the LGBTQ+ community continues to face challenges every day in order to live as their authentic selves in North Carolina and across the world; and
WHEREAS, Equality North Carolina staff, volunteers and partners are dedicated to creating a community where LGBTQ+ people will be secure in living their authentic lives with no threat of retribution or harm;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim October 25, 2024, as “IN RECOGNITION OF THE EQUALITY NORTH CAROLINA’S 45th ANNIVERSARY” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
