IN RECOGNITION OF
FAYETTEVILLE STATE UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS
2024
BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, during the 2023 – 2024 academic year, Fayetteville State University achieved great success in athletics, winning multiple Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Championships; and
WHEREAS, on October 23, 2023, Fayetteville State University won a second consecutive CIAA Men’s Cross-Country Championship, and won their sixth consecutive CIAA Women’s Cross-Country Championship; and
WHEREAS, on February 12, 2024, Fayetteville State University won their fourth consecutive CIAA Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship; and
WHEREAS, on March 2, 2024, Fayetteville State University won the CIAA Women’s Basketball Championship and advanced to the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II Sweet Sixteen and Atlantic Region Championship, finishing the season with a record-breaking 29-3 overall record; and
WHEREAS, on March 24, 2024, Fayetteville State University won the CIAA Women’s Bowling Championship; and
WHEREAS, on May 4, 2024, Fayetteville State University won their fourth consecutive CIAA Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship; and
WHEREAS, the success of these remarkable young athletes is a testament to their hard work and dedication to their respective sports and demonstrates the importance of ensuring the benefits of education and athletics; and
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina is proud to congratulate and recognize the Fayetteville State University Athletics Teams, their head coaches, and coaching staff on their amazing year of success;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim August 19, 2024, as a day “IN RECOGNITION OF FAYETTEVILLE STATE UNIVERSITY ATHLETICS” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
