WHEREAS, Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated is a professional nursing organization that was founded on October 16, 1932 at Freedman’s Hospital in Washington, DC by Alien C. Ewell and eleven other professional registered nurses; and

WHEREAS, the Iota Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated was founded on May 22, 1948, in Charlotte, North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, the Iota Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated was the first chapter charted in North Carolina and the fifth chapter organized in the United States; and

WHEREAS, Iota Chapter has served the Charlotte community for 75 years with partnerships with Metrolina Council of Nursing Organizations, Mecklenburg County Toys for Tots, The Florence Crittenton Home, Ronald McDonald House, The Roof Above, and many others; and

WHEREAS, the Iota Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated will convene in Charlotte for its 67th Biannual National Educational Conference and Business Meeting; and

WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina joins the Iota Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated in celebrating and commemorating members across our state for their service to North Carolina and their communities;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim July 11, 2023, as a day “IN RECOGNITION OF THE IOTA CHAPTER OF CHI ETA PHI SORORITY, INCORPORATED” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
