THE LINKS RALEIGH 75th DIAMOND JUBILEE

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA

A PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated is an international, not-for-profit corporation established in 1946 and is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations committed to enriching, sustaining, and ensuring the cultural and economic survival of African Americans and other people of African ancestry; and

WHEREAS, the Raleigh, North Carolina chapter of The Links was chartered on April 18, 1946, making it one of the original 13 chapters; the organization's mission is: friends transforming communities through service; and

WHEREAS, members of The Links are influential decision-makers and opinion leaders representing business, government, media, academia, philanthropy, the arts, and more; and

WHEREAS, Links members across the nation contribute roughly a million hours of community service annually, including approximately 4,000 hours of community service in Raleigh; and

WHEREAS, community service is provided in five programmatic focus areas: Links connected to Prepare Our Youth for Success, Links connected to Advance Our Artistic Heritage, Links connected to Advocate for Our Communities, Links connected for Global Impact, and Links connected to Promote Black Family Wellness; and

WHEREAS, since its inception, the Raleigh Chapter has been dedicated to service focused on improving the surrounding community through civic, cultural, and educational endeavors throughout the greater Wake County area, the state, and communities of African ancestry in the Caribbean; and

WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina is proud to recognize the Raleigh Chapter of The Links, Incorporated as it celebrates its 75th Diamond Jubilee milestone of friends transforming communities through service;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim April 20, 2024, as a day “IN RECOGNITION OF THE LINKS RALEIGH 75th DIAMOND JUBILEE” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
