IN RECOGNITION OF
THE NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM
2024
BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the North Carolina State University Women’s Cross Country program has contributed greatly to our state’s reputation of excellence in collegiate sports; and
WHEREAS, NC State University is the first program to win three consecutive Division 1 women's cross country national titles in 2021-23 since Stanford University won three straight from 2005-07; and
WHEREAS, NC State University remains a leading institution of higher education dedicated to excellence in the classroom, community, and athletic competition; and
WHEREAS, the 2023 NC State Women's Cross Country Team was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Scholar Team of the Year in February 2024; and
WHEREAS, Head Women's Cross Country Coach Laurie Henes was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Women's Coach of the Year for the third consecutive season; and
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina is proud to congratulate the North Carolina State University Women’s Cross Country Team on an extraordinary season, and wishes them continued success;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim March 18, 2024, as a day “IN RECOGNITION OF THE NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
