IN RECOGNITION OF
THE NORTH CAROLINA’S SOUTHEAST 30th ANNIVERSARY
2024
BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, in 1994, the North Carolina General Assembly established an 11-county regional economic development commission to instill prosperity and foster job growth in communities stretching from Greater Wilmington to the Sandhills; and
WHEREAS, state-appointed business and civic leaders from across the region converged to build the organizational apparatus and strategic framework that would ensure every southeastern North Carolina county had access to a compelling global marketing presence, modern infrastructure and customized economic development solutions; and
WHEREAS, the commission’s founders assembled an array of public, private, philanthropic and academic partners and allies to form a collaborative network to set and implement programs, tactics and tasks to maximize the region’s economic development potential; and
WHEREAS, in 2013, North Carolina’s Southeast would become a fully independent public-private partnership that began tapping new financial, technical and leadership resources to re-focus and re-energize regional advocacy, workforce innovation, product development and global marketing strategies; and
WHEREAS, that in collaborating closely with the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, as well as regional business and governmental leaders, North Carolina’s Southeast showcases available buildings, sites and industrial parks across its now-20 counties to location advisers, corporate real estate brokers and industry executives around the world through face-to-face interaction and state-of-the-art promotional tools; and
WHEREAS, since opening the books on its first project in the mid-1990s, North Carolina’s Southeast has played a key part in attracting 190 corporate locations to the region, which have thus far accounted for nearly $3.7 billion in announced capital investment and more than 18,500 in announced new jobs;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim October 8, 2024, as “IN RECOGNITION OF THE NORTH CAROLINA’S SOUTHEAST 30th ANNIVERSARY” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
