THE TEACH FOR AMERICA NORTH CAROLINA 35TH ANNIVERSARY

A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Teach For America North Carolina is dedicated to finding, developing, and supporting leaders to transform education and expand opportunities for all children; and
WHEREAS, Teach For America North Carolina began in 1990, bringing teachers to the Old North State with the goal of creating a world where one day, all children will have the opportunity to attain an excellent education; and
WHEREAS, over the last 35 years, Teach For America North Carolina has proudly recruited, matched, and developed over 4,200 first-year teachers who served hundreds of thousands of students from across the State of North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, Teach for America North Carolina has worked in partnership with school districts, community organizations, and families across the state to reduce educational inequities, particularly in under-resourced and rural communities, ensuring all students can thrive academically, and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Teach For America North Carolina alumni continue to transform education and expand opportunity for all children through their work in every sector and field; and
WHEREAS, Governor Roy Cooper has declared 2024 as the 'Year of Public Schools,' highlighting North Carolina's unwavering commitment to ensuring equitable access to educational opportunities for all students, and Teach For America North Carolina teachers over the past 35 years have worked tirelessly for our public school students and their families;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim December 19, 2024, as “IN RECOGNITION OF THE TEACH FOR AMERICA NORTH CAROLINA 35TH ANNIVERSARY” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
