IN RECOGNITION OF
THE WAKE FOREST GARDEN CLUB 100th ANNIVERSARY
2024
BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina recognizes the Wake Forest Garden Club on its 100th anniversary for valuable and enduring contributions to the Wake Forest community and our great state; and
WHEREAS, the Wake Forest Garden Club is the longest continuing service organization in its community; it has worked to enhance the beauty and environmental health of North Carolina through its projects in the greater Wake Forest community by planting trees, improving community landscaping, and establishing bird sanctuaries; and
WHEREAS, the Wake Forest Garden Club sponsored the preservation of the Calvin Jones House, the first classroom building for what later became Wake Forest University, and its volunteers maintain the gardens of the Calvin Jones House, now part of the Wake Forest Historical Museum; and
WHEREAS, the volunteers provide continuing support of the local food bank, create patio garden containers to help provide healthy food to fight hunger, and donate “Flower Cart” arrangements to retirement homes, care facilities, and to those who are home-bound in the community; and
WHEREAS, the Wake Forest Garden Club supports town clean-ups, provides plants for the local parks, library, Post Office, and local radio station, WCPE, and encourages gardeners to be water-wise and use North Carolina native and pollinator-friendly plants; and
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina recognizes the Wake Forest Garden Club and the efforts of its members to preserve the beautiful landscape of the Wake Forest community;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim October 1, 2024, as a day “IN RECOGNITION OF THE WAKE FOREST GARDEN CLUB 100th ANNIVERSARY” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
