REGISTERED ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH SPECIALIST WEEK

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, registered environmental health specialists in North Carolina conduct important work in programs focusing on food safety, facility sanitation, wastewater disposal, safe drinking water, lead poisoning prevention, infectious agents, and emergency preparedness and response; and
WHEREAS, registered environmental health specialists are employed by local, state, and federal governments, and also serve schools and industries throughout North Carolina, as they contribute immeasurably to the public's health and safety and improved quality of life in our communities; and
WHEREAS, this year, the theme of World Environmental Health Day, celebrated annually on September 26, is Environmental Health: Creating Resilient Communities through Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation; and
WHEREAS, environmental health plays a critical role in building resilient and sustainable communities by integrating climate change and disaster risks into development planning and budgeting; and
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina commends registered environmental health specialists for their many contributions to improving quality of life for people, families, and communities throughout our state;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim September 22 – 28, 2024, as “REGISTERED ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH SPECIALIST WEEK” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
