WHEREAS, the North Carolina State Capitol Police force is charged with providing a safe and secure environment for employees and visitors to the State Government Complex and at other state-owned properties entrusted to its care; and
WHEREAS, officers of the State Capitol Police administer federal, state and local laws using ethical and legal standards; and
WHEREAS, State Capitol Police officers are responsible for conducting investigations of crimes on state property found within and about the State Government Capital Complex in downtown Raleigh within its jurisdiction, as well as internal affairs matters and other unusual occurrences; and
WHEREAS, State Capitol Police work with various groups during rallies, demonstrations and other special events to protect the safety of demonstrators, bystanders, visitors and state property and have done so during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and other extremely challenging circumstances; and
WHEREAS, the State Capitol Police Dispatch Center monitors emergency alarms at state-owned facilities 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and directs emergency responders as needed; and
WHEREAS, State Capitol Police added three new zero-emission patrol cars to its fleet this year as part of the ongoing initiative to increase efficiency in state operations and reduce emissions and energy consumption by the year 2025, as set forth in Executive Order No. 80; and
WHEREAS, the State Capitol Police has provided dedicated service to the people of North Carolina and state officials, employees and visitors for more than 50 years and has recommitted itself to providing superior public safety services to the public as it seeks national accreditation;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim December 5-12, 2021, as “STATE CAPITOL POLICE OFFICERS’ WEEK” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
