STATE EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION WEEK
AND
STATE EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION DAY
2024
BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, North Carolina is proud to be home to approximately 76,000 state employees who serve the people of our state through their work with state agencies and public universities across all 100 of North Carolina’s counties; and
WHEREAS, our public sector employees perform their jobs every day with professionalism, providing efficient and effective services to all people of North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, state employees positively impact nearly every aspect of daily life in North Carolina; they teach our children, protect our safety, ensure our health, promote good jobs and a strong economy, help keep our air, water and food safe, secure our means of transportation and communication and much more; and
WHEREAS, millions of North Carolina residents and visitors benefit daily from the unwavering dedication, commitment, professionalism and hard work of state employees; and
WHEREAS, state government strives to engage a workforce that represents the diverse needs and perspectives of everyone it serves, including North Carolinians of all ages, abilities, backgrounds, faiths, sexual orientations and genders; from communities large and small, urban and rural; and
WHEREAS, state employees make North Carolina one of the best places to live in the nation, earning it consistently high rankings for business, climate, and livability;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 5 – 11, 2024, as “STATE EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION WEEK” and May 8, 2023, as “STATE EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION DAY” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
